Last week a group of very fit Y10 and Y11 students successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Bronze Qualifying Tramp, walking into the Orongorongo Valley via the Whakanui Track and finishing at Catchpool. Wellington Girls' College student Alicja Nowacka took out the high school section of the Bling My Bra competition at Massey University last night.
Her design The Butterfly Ship was a homage to Russian artist Vladimir Kush's painting Departure of the Winged Ship, she said. Though her handiwork came out better – and bigger – than she was originally intending, she was still stunned to be named a category winner.
"It was like, oh really – me, really me?"
The Karori 14-year-old was one of two high school students and two adult designers to win Bling My Bra prizes.
The school canteen will close for the year after service on Friday 6 December. Students need to bring their own lunches on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 December.
