Update - the NZSS girls football team played Changi Village for their fourth and final game on tour. They won comprehensively 8-0 to have a clean sweep of all four games for an total aggregate score of 19-1 with the one goal conceeded in the first 10 minutes of the tour! Lena played the whole game and played well, mostly as holding midfielder then as centre back (to go with two other games as holding mid and one game as left wing). She was one of eight players out of the squad of 18 who received special recognition by the coach. Very successful tour and the team just got better and better. In the end, Lena played in all 4 games, starting in three of them.
Lena de Ronde in Singapore, representing NZ in the U18 New Zealand Secondary Schools football team.
They won the first game against the Singapore Cup club Warriors FC 4-1, after only getting off the plane 24 hours earlier and playing in almost 30°C heat, having never even had one practice together before assembling at Auckland airport. They then beat the Singapore National side 4-0(!) which was a truly amazing achievement (that game has Lena in black, standing over the captain of Singapore who she just tackled but who then lay on the ball using her head! - you can see Lena was not impressed!). The team won 3-0 against another top club side Woodlands Wellington FC (of all names!). So three from three with one match to play against Changi Village. (Lena is No. 7)
