The WGC 1st X1 Hockey team played a tough rain-soaked match against QMC on Friday night. They were playing for the Wellington Cup which is the final of grading round. After QMC was disallowed a goal in the first 5 minutes, WGC regrouped and played up QMC's end for the majority of the game. Jade Jones slotted the first goal after receiving a penalty and then Liv Wiles finished off skilful work through the defenders with a great field goal.
The team has started off the season really well under the guidance of coach Riley Jennings. A number of them have made representative teams.
Jade Jones and Sara Cooper have made the Capital Under 18 team, Sara as captain. Sara is also a member of the High Performance Sport NZ Regional Hockey Academy based in Wellington. In the Wellington Under 18 team are Harriet Leslie, Olivia Wills, Amy Wills, Caitlin Rennie and Phoebe Pottinger. (Pictured, captain Sara Cooper, receiving the cup).
