Ngā Manu Kōrero Māori Speech Competition

Last Wednesday the 13 June, two students, Whakaahurangi Gallagher (left) and Ruby Gane (right), competed in the Te Whanganui-a-Tara ki Ōtaki regional Ngā Manu Kōrero Māori speech competition at Takapūwāhia marae in Porirua. Whakaahurangi, after a very strong impromptu speech that had her tied for first placed, narrowly missed out on the top spot, placing second overall in the Korimako / Senior English section and Ruby placed fifth in Tā Turi Kara / Junior English section. Both girls did really well and Wellington Girls’ College has quickly become a school to watch at these competitions, in both the English and Māori sections, which is a credit to the depth of talent that this school has to offer.
